"The amphielissaminoan galley of 1850 BC, depicted on the Akrotiri fresco (Santorini) shortly before one of the greatest volcanic eruptions in history. Perhaps the most beautiful boat of all time...(for me).
Leave the crowds behind and admire the almost-preserved city of Akrotiri, buried under 30 m of ash, and its frescoes, so fine and fragile, so modern, the beautiful Akrotiri women with their intricate adorned with bracelets, earrings and necklaces. Don't forget to buy a little something from the archaeology students who run the souvenir store, and tell them how moved you are after strolling through the narrow streets lining the mansions of this aesthetic seafaring people, devoted to art and the sea.
And, in a more down-to-earth vein on this island encircled by the Cycladic Sea, your amazement at discovering freshwater pipes, bathrooms and...the famous "toilets" of Akrotiri, 3670 years before Ikea and Leroy Merlin built their temples to the glory of the god of decoherence the glory of the god of decoration..
